currently, i've got the stock one, but under load, temps are recording 55 degrees. That is beyond my personal safety threshold. So, I'm wondering if there are any good heatsinks around that can drop me down to at LEAST 40-45 degrees on load? Also, my budget will be below $40

dual core?I'm guessing you're talking about the x2's?anywhere i can get them?

You may be advised to get it on ebay. You need to know that there are different types. The one that you will find easily on ebay is the one with only 2 heat pipes and a 70mm fan.

The best one that you want is one with 4 heat pipes and an 80mm fan.
This is the one you want in case you decide to go for the stock AMD cooler.
