For various reasons, I would rather not build a gaming computer. Does anybody have a recommendation of a "good" gaming rig already built that is from a good reliable company? All of the reviews I've looked up seem very poor including Alienware, Cyberpower, Systemax, etc. Dell was not that good either, but I couldn't find any XPS reviews.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

No direct experience, but have you checked out Falcon? Or are their reviews bad as well?

Just adding some peanuts to the discussion. :D

...but building your own is so much fun! (when it works...)

If you must buy from a company try here http://www.voodoopc.com/omen.aspx
you must be rich too

I know right cheapest one is like 4900.00 thats pointless when you could build the same thing for like 2900.00

Water-cooled? Ya rite...

OP: If you dont feel comfortable building it yourself, go down to your local computer store wih the parts you wanted and ask them if they'll build it for you. It might cost $50....

I remember C.Net or ZDTV was tring to do a comparision a while back with Alienware vs Falcon NW and it was funny because the Falcon NW computer came broke but I am sure that was just a fluke ;)

Hey, The man asked a question I gave him a good answer. He didn't say how much.

Now that Dell has dropped Core 2 system prices a bit they really aren't a bad choice.

Most Dell gaming reviews you'll find are of older and Pentium 4 and D systems (bad for gaming) not Core 2.

A decent budget system would be core 2 E6400, 1 GB RAM (though 2 GB is better), 7900 GS or GT graphics card.

Sorry. . . my budget is $3000 or less. Thanks anyway.

As to why I don't want to do it. I am pressed for time right now and really can't devote much research, puchasing, training and building time. Just wondered if there was a ready made one that was good quality at a reasonable cost (3k or less).

I built my last one 2.5 years ago -- which is running well right now (with a few sputters along the way). I just don't know if I want to do that right now.

well i imagine you could get a decently priced mainstream system (i.e. dell) for that price, and if you wanted you could buy a better video card for gaming yourself.

With a Dell Dimension 9200 in Small Business you can get a core 2 E6400, 2 GB, 7900GS video card, 250 GB HD, and 20" monitor for about $1,600.

You should be able to get a Dell XPS in Home with an E6600, 2GB, 7900GTX or 7950GX2, 20" monitor for well under $3,000.

LOL. That's most likely why we build them ourselves. :D

OP, that's another great suggestion (a la wfbber and DSimmons) - get a decent business/mainstream model and swap out the video card and up the RAM (if req'd). Pretty easy and cost efficient.

My local pc store did it for $30 CAD!

OP: Look at Dell, Falcon, Velocity, VooDoo. Might be a little more expensive than if you built it, but your garnunteed a warrenty.

Falcon Fragbox is a pretty cool SFF gaming machine.

Otherwise, the Talon line is now C2D, and a nicely spec'd one looks about 2700. I assume your price doesn't include monitor? It is a little steep, actually, I guess you're paying for the support. If you can do your own support, probably go for Dell XPS :)
