Hi

Can anybody recommend me a game to play? I have another 2 months of summer and I want something to try on my new computer. However, I'm kinda on a tight budget ($30 or less).

I don't like RTS or Sports (I like Sports on console systems). Anything else is fine.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if Commandos counts as an RTS, but the series is incredible. A great action/strategy game! Take a look at the reviews.. :)

Thanks for the replies. I just went to Fry's and back during my lunch break, and they had this package that had 4 games: Deus Ex, Commandos, Thief 2, and Tomb Raider Chronicles, all for $20. Good or bad?

Also...will Morrowind eat up my time like no other? I really want to play it because it sounds like fun, but all the reviews I've read say that it is addictive and will take up A LOT of hours.

Any more suggestions?

Morrowind will kill your social life.
Deus Ex will take up probably 25 hours to play all the way through, then you can play it again, so that's be a couple of days solid.

what? Homeworld for free? Link?

Ghost Recon has gotten good reviews, but the graphics are a bit dated. And it's also kind of too complicated to just pick up and play.

Man go download "bookworm deluxe" and "atomica deluxe" from popcap games. Bookworm actually got me to stop playing FPS's & RTS's for a while. It's a tiny game that I read about in a gaming magazine - very addictive. It might not occupy you for two months but it's definately worth the download.

hmmm, let's see, it received game of the year awards, and, here's some of the quotes from Red Storm's site:

"The Best Tactical Shooter Ever" - PC Gamer, Game of the Year

"Simply put: do not miss out on this one." ? IGN PC, Game of the Year

"If you enjoyed Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear, then you shouldn?t miss this." ? Gamepro.com

"The tension is what makes this game incredible to play." - Game Informer, 9 out of 10.

i'll let you make your own decision based on that... ;)

From Hot Deals, Target has the Fallout 1 & 2 bundle for $4.99, two of the best RPGs ever made.

I swear I was just about to post that. Fallout 1&2 are, by far, the greatest RPGs I've ever played.

If you like FPS games, and have a cable internet connection, get yourself a copy of Halflife. Play through the single player, then after you've finished that there are a HUGE number of HL mods, the most common being Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress, Firearms, etc. You can probably get a copy of HL for about $20 now, so the gameplay vs. price ratio is well worth the purchase.

That is, assuming you're not one of the few people that hasn't bought/played HL :D

Ghost Recon = Best, probably most realisitc FPS I've seen. It's $20 for the original game, and about $40 with two great expansion packs added on (a desert one and a tropical one). Guns are all great, gameplay great, especially online you can get usually a game with at least 18 in it (up to 36, but hard to find one with so many). Graphics pretty good too. How about this, for $30 you can buy the $40 pack and I'll buy the tropic add-on for $10... for some reason they don't sell it seperately anymore (more $$$ from lazies like me who've waited this long to buy it). If realism in a tactical FPS is what you want, definately, definately, definately get this game (all 3 and sell 1... remember :) ). Get all-seeing eye or something like that though, the online network it comes with blows. Oh yes, and if you're just in it for single player, there's about 15 missions in the first one, another 8 or so in the second, and a few more I'd suppose in the third, and they're difficult as hell on expert.

If you want more arcade style, I always liked the Delta Force series, not much on graphics or realism, but you can get like the first 3 of them for dirt cheap and online play is up to 50 players at a time, and the sniping aspect is great (unlimited level sizes and great maps for sniping for 500m-1.5km), there's not much weapon choice though, I think the first one isn't playable online anymore either, and single player blows.

Freedom Force, it's around 13 bucks now. The game is just fun, good graphics, and easy as hell to get into. I installed it recently and it's really a kick a$$ game. The price is right too.

I bought the 4-play pack yesterday and started playing Commandos 2. It took me 2 or 3 hours just to get through training. It was because I kept thinking I didn't have to quicksave, but then I would make a mistake and have to do everything all over again. This game reminds me of Jagged Alliance.

They have the Ghost Recon Gold Pack for $40 and Fry's and Best Buy. It has Ghost Recon and both expansion packs if anybody is interested.

Thanks for all the replies.
