Recommended components for linux computer (under400)

Please recommend components you would use for a relatively inexpensive computer that is to be used for linux.

Right now i was thinking about AMD Duron 800-900 on MSI K7T Turbo
thanks

btw, i know little about linux/computers

Try a used Pentium/Pro 200 w/ 64mb of ram. Any old video card should work.
I'd use at least a 4gig hd. because the latest distributions ie RedHat 7.1
take 2.2gigs for a full install. This way you could load everything .

Get either Mandrake 8.0 or Red Hat 7.1 they have the 2.4 kernel.

Good Luck
Jose

hmmmm...thanks..i guess that would be the best idea. The thing is i was hoping to have a fast computer at the same time. I guess i shouldn't try to do both. where do i get used components from?

wait..i really really want a fast computer at the same time. is it really not recommended to have linux running on new components. (i know that old components supposedly have the most support)
