Hey all, I'm sitting here, still using my Radeon 32mb DDR (please don't laugh) and I've been holding out for the 9500 release.
I do game, but usually I play older stuff (UT, sid meier games, and now WC3, but that's not that video intensive), but I would like to be able to play newer stuff, even if only at 1024 and not the highest detail settings.
I'm running a 1.7Ghz Willy, and probably won't upgrade for 2+ years, so I'm wondering if a 9500 will be wasted on my processor, and if I should just get a 128mb 8500le now. I'd rather buy an ATI card because I don't want to take a step down in 2D quality, because that's where I spend most of my time, and even though the G4ti 2D quality is pretty good, it kind of sounds like a crapshoot in that department, and I'd rather have guaranteed high quality 2D. Also, I'd like to keep the higher quality TV-out.
So, any recommendations? I'm just worried that if I buy the 8500le now for 100-110, I might have to shell it out again in a year, where as with the 9500, I could probably go 2 years before another upgrade.
thanks in advance,

hey dude the GF4ti 2d doesnt suck beleive me....... i went from a radeon 32 meg DDR to this ti4600, no drop in visual quality, and i run at 16x12x85hz....

yes i would agree, btw, go ahead and wait for the 9500.

thanks for the replies, I guess I'll just wait it out.
kurt454, I've heard that the 9500 will be at about $179, and the 9500pro will be at $219, but I'm not sure if that's just speculation.

I bet some of the benchmarks and reviews will show the performance on less than top of the line CPUs. Obviously this is the market that they are reaching for. Not the 2.8Ghz P4 and XP 2600+ market. They're really reaching for the mid range with this one. I suppose we'll see some not so CPU limited tests on that new P4, but I can't stress enough how usefull it will be to see the other tests added on there too.

Good idea to wait for these numbers.
