Hey guys,

Ill be in Amsterdam for 3 days starting Thursday and was wondering if you guys have any recommendations on what's good to do/check out there. I'm staying in a hotel in the canal district. So far on my list of things to do include:

1. Red Light District
2. Canal Tour on boat
3. Sex Museum
4. Rent bicycle ride around the city/walk and explore
5. Go to a cafe and try out the "legal" stuff ;)
6. ???

I like food, I like beer, I like cool bars and original spots :p

Well they are cleaning up Amsterdam and currently getting rid of a lot of the "whoring" in the Red Light District so it's not going to be anything like before but everyone that I know that has gone there said it's a very nice and clean city everywhere but the Red Light District.

Sooo . . . you're telling him get his whoring on while the whoring's good?

I'm down with that. Just leave your new laptop home while you go, though. :p

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was customary to just "borrow" a bicycle whenever you needed one (Source: My sister said it after studying at a university there)

A recent traveler there said foreigners aren't allowed to go to coffee shops anymore...

Belgium and Germany are pissed that their people can get drugs so easily. It may have only been his experience...I'm sure he didn't try every coffee shop.

Heineken Experience
Anne Frank House
Van Gogh Museum

Travelers can definitely go to the cafes, at least the bigger ones. Also, you can try real absinthe if you are into that.

shens, they did however outlaw mushrooms because foreigners kept killing themselves while hallucinating...

Get a lot of chocolate pudding,
Get one flank steak,

Sweet city so far :p Everything is amazing except for the fact that I had to carry a 60 pound bag up 3 floors in the steepest, most narrow, staircase known to man!

Enjoy the legal stuff while you can. To comply with stricter EU laws, the cafes as we know them will soon be a thing of the past for tourists.

I also recommend taking a train out to Leiden and rent a bike there. Very nice.

I believe they had something like the Yellow Bike program when I was there, but then again, that trip is kind of a blur.

I just got back from Amsterdam, and it's very clean in the red light district as well. There will be scantily clad hot women in the red lit windows at night as well, so don't worry.

Wow, I'm not that surprised but wouldn't this hurt tourism? Maybe heads going there just for the legal pot aren't really the kind of tourists they want so it's easier just to ban them.

I agree. It would probably have a very negative affect on tourism. Maybe it would be one of those laws that exist, but aren't really enforced.
