We've picked up quite a collection of stone chips and scratches where the bodywork finishes in front of the front wheel arch, and at the very bottom corner of the rear doors.

No doubt a side effect of lots of time spent on loose gravel roads, but any advice as to some kind of protective tape/film we can apply?

Our dealer suggested Motor One protective film (which they were an agent for, of course), but I thought I'd better check with you car-care gurus.

Some of the chips have gone through to metal, presume I should get a touch-up pen as well before I apply anything on top?

It's rather annoying since we pony'd up for the optional mudguards precisely because we knew we'd be doing lots of high-speed gravel driving...but whateva ;)

my friends shop does custom fit 3M film for that. kind of pricey, but it does help a lot. he did it on a bunch of harleys and bike trailers. some of the local dealers will send him cars to get it done on the painted bumpers as well.

Yeah 3M is the way to go, they have material diecut for many makes and models from just a bumper piece to full hood, fender, and mirrors.

I have seen off-brands and they are not as invisible nor as durable as the 3M.

It's pricey though.

For sure, a surface protection tape will work well for you. There are lots of online stores out there that can provide exactly what you need and provide enough reason to expect for a flaw free finish.
