I'm helping my parents clean out the garage that just full of old papers and such, and I think we need to go with a shredder. I'm thinking of going with a medium-duty shredder, like the Fellowes® Powershred® PS60-2 Personal Strip-Cut Shredder here at Office Depot.

I can get the confetti cutter for about 40 bux more (or so), and was wondering if it was worth it (maybe i can fit more paper per garbage bag with the confetti cutter vs. the strip cutter).

The reviews on epinions.com seem to be
pretty good.

I was thinking of going with these based on price, preformance, and recommendations.

Anybody have any insight or other recommendations?

thanks

i have a fellowes shredstick that does stripcut.. id personally wait for a sale and get a crosscut shredder.. for 1, it's more secure. another is that since it's crosscut, it confetti doesnt take up as much space so you dont have to empty out the basket as often. but the main thing is security..

as a substitute until i get a crosscut shredder, i usually tear what im shreding into quarters so the strips are smaller..

Instead of a paper shredder use a Zippo.:)

In my experience, Fellowes makes quality products.

Why do you need a paper shredder to clean out your garage? Do you biuld spyplanes in there or somehing? Afraid someone's going to find your secret A-bomb plans that have been sitting under a stack of tires since you were in 2nd grade?

Really, how much highly sensitive information can you have just lying around the garage that you need to throw out?

My father swears by Fellowes, his last one made it 8 years until the plastic arm broke!

I wanted to get a confetti-cut model, but they were expensive. I ended up with a strip cut that hangs on any old wastebasket at Office Max for $12. It's not that great, but for the money, I'm happy with it. It does what it claims to do. I wouldn't spend more unless it does a confetti cut.

i've had my share of cheapies before, and they're not worth it. I think to go ahead and invest in a good one.

Also check your local Costco or Sams Club. They have decent prices on shredders. I saw a heavy duty Royal one at Sams for about $99. Looked similar to the one you linked but had a slide out bin.

heres a tip, well it happened when i used it. i tried a confetti cut unit once. under heavy loads, that sucker jammed. what happens is in addition to the strip cut rollers, on the end of the cutter is something that kinda slices the strips. that dosent drop all the paper and it goes back into the cutter wheels, and after a while you'll spend 5 minutes cleaning out the thing.

i went with a strip cut, for the most part it works ok, i'd rather have a cross cut tho.
