Recommendations needed for WIRED router

I am looking for a new Wired router, as well as a DSL modem. If there is a good combination router/modem, I'd love to know, though I suspect I might be better off with two separate pieces of hardware.

I'm currently using my PC as a router, as my old combination unit broke. I want to replace it, but only with something good. Even before it broke, it was never very capable. It couldn't handle many connections, and would need to be reset every so often. I'm looking for a nice capable router.

I've heard a lot of recommendations for the Buffalo wireless routers, but I really don't want to go wireless. I would love to stay wired.

Also, are there any places online that sell straight-up DSL modems? (PPPoE) I've heard the combination units, much like the one I already had, are mostly crap. I'd rather get a standalone modem and a standalone router, if that's better.

Yes you should get a separate modem and router. I've been very happy with Buffalo routers lately. Just turn the wireless off if you don't want it.

A DSL Modem Router combo, means a Modem with a sub average Router.

As states above get a stand alone Modem and a stand alone Router.

Wired Routers cost as much as the Wireless so get the Buffalo and switch off the Wireless.

to be honest an old pc running one of the linux based router OS ( dd-wrt x86, moonwall, Pfense etc) would make a much better, stable router and be able to handle many many more connections than a soho router you would get from bestbuy, circuitcity ect. Just my .02 cents.
