Recommendations for tablet for reading

I'm after a tablet purely for reading books. I'm considering the $320 9.7" iPad.

I've had a look around at some Android tablets but haven't been successful in finding one with a good high resolution screen that is cheaper than the aforementioned iPad.

Could anyone recommend any for me to check out?

Note: the Kindle is not an option for me, regrettably.
 
There's plenty of alternatives and there's plenty of top10's and recommendations from reviews out there. This for instance, mentions the Nook. It even mentions the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7.

I ended up finding a solution for my problem with the Kindle, and went and picked up an Oasis. It does the job very well.
