I'm thinking about building a high-end gaming rig over the next few months, and I don't mind taking my time and waiitng for a good deal. I have limited knowledge in doing this though, and was wondering what are people's personal recommendations for brand/model for a system with these ballpark specs (they're what I would like to have eventually):
case (no clue)
fans/cooling (no clue)
motherboard (no clue)
3+ Ghz (32-bit or 64-bit?) (Intel or AMD?)
2 GB RAM (OCZ? Corsair? ...?)
512 MB graphics (ATI? Nvidia?)
X-Fi sound card
i already have a 2005FPW monitor ($400) and a 200GB Seagate disk ($50). i plan to use this system for heavy development work, playing graphics-intensive games, watching DVD's. I'm not really into the flashy cases, overclocking, all that jazz... I wouldn't mind shelling out some extra bucks to get somewhat next-gen technology that won't be outdated too soon. right now, i see there's a pretty good deal on the X-Fi sound card for $90 after rebate... should I buy it? I am not an audiophile, and I feel like that would suit my needs more than enough, yet be able to handle future waves of technology for a few years (hopefully).
i know there are a gazillion sites with reviews and stuff, and i've been reading around and googling... but i'd just like to hear what "real people" have to say about their favorites, and I also want to learn about putting a system together in general.
thanks,
Jason
