Recommendations for a USB keydrive?

I've only just recently become aware of USB keydrives, and I have now thought of several good reasons for me to get one ASAP. However, when I look around at some of the online outlets, I'm a little dismayed at the lack of a selection, and some unexplainable pricing on the few I've found. E.g., NewEgg apparently has a total of only two choices, and the Linksys 128MB costs twice as much as the Lexar 256MB, and I don't see what the difference is to account for the smaller one being more expensive (other than the name, perhaps).

Where should I be looking for something like this, and what makes/models are recommended? I need it to be USB 1.1 compatible, and I can probably get by well enough with as little as 64MB, although 128MB or even 256MB would certainly be nice if the price is right. And price is an issue ... I have use for such a thing, but I really can't turn it into a major investment right now.

I'd be grateful for any assistance!

Personally, I use the SanDisk 512MB one. I hear they are going to be on sale at Best Buy during their After-Thanksgiving-Day-Sale for about $30 after MIR.

I bought mine from NewEgg a while back for about $90 when they were first coming down in prices. No regrets, as I've used it a lot.

Any USB2.0 drive will work with USB1.1, AFAIK, so you should be good to go there.

My vote goes to SanDisk.

Newegg has alot more than just 2. Here is a 1GB for a nice price.

Sandisk drives are pretty cheap and pretty good.... I think 512MB is the sweet spot right now if you can find one cheap after rebates.... flash memory has been dropping in prices recently though...

When you say that BB is expected to have a Black Friday sale on the ""512MB Sandisk", which version are you talking about? The Cruzer Titanium, Cruzer Mini, or Cruzer Micro?

Hm, not sure about that. I'd suggest you look for the thread in Hot Deals. That is where I found the text for it.

Either way, I say you can't go wrong with the deal.

I didn't know Linksys makes USB drive... but so far I like my Sandisk Cruzer Mini 256MB. I bought mine @ $30 from Costco

There was a thread here long ago that when users insert a Lexar drive in a USB slot, they would have a hard time getting the USB drive out. I bought a Lexar Secure and had the same issue not due because of its bulkiness - it took a little bit of jiggles. I returned it to Fry's and went to Costco and got me the Sandisk.

Don't get USB drives that are bulky like the Lexar Secure. Rather, get a thin one like the Sandisk or other brands.

Thanks to everyone for the recommendations ... you've taught me a lot about the subject. I decided to get a Sandisk Cruzer Titanium 512MB, as I like the idea of the recessing USB connector and don't think I'll have to worry as much about damaging it in transit as I would have worried about the Micro. I capitalized on a conveniently timed discount from MultiWave and got it for under $50, so I think I'll be pretty happy with that.

I'm in the market for a new USB key. I had a Lexar Jumpdrive a while back, but it only lasted 3 weeks. Apparently it was getting battered too much by my, which I carry in the same pocket. What's the most durable drive I can get? Something that passes the tumble dryer test would probably be what I'm looking for. I'd pay quite a bit for an industrial strength drive...

Though I don't have any personal experience with it yet (it's slated for delivery later today), one of the reasons I "tumbled" to the Sandisk Titanium is because it is supposed to be extremely robust.

I just checked into the Titanium, and it seems to be just what I need. Time to start shopping around...
