Recommendations for a good book on networking

I'd like to learn more about networking and was looking for a good book to get me started. I know some of the basics, but I'd like to go farther. I can network two computers together , install a broadband router and even hooked the router at work to the 3com switch with the help of fellow anandtechers. 🙂

Thanks for all suggestions in advance.

I'd focus on learning the ins and outs of TCP/IP.
Maybe a little on physcial media, but focus more on the transport and application protocols.

Will pay off BIG dividends for you down the road.

Douglas Comer has written some amazing books, both for the novice and the veteran.
Search that author name on Amazon.

I'd take a look at Upgrading and Repairing Networks by Terry Ogletree. Its a great tech book and is written at a level easily understood by the novice (something that is missing from many technical text these days).
