Hello. I am going to be building a multimedia PC for use in my den. I want it to be able to record off of the TV or from a camcorder and burn the files as VCD or SVCD onto CR-ROM. In addition, I want it to be able to play MP3 throught the stereo. Lastly, I want the internal DVD drive to be able to be output to a video proector for use as a projection TV. It will not be used to gaming.

I have all the parts I need except for the motherboard and CPU. Thanks to Newegg, I purchased the Leadtek video capture card. Got the Antec case on clearance at Bestbuy. Also have a harddrive, 5.1 soundcard and 512k of ddr 2100 memory. For the CPU, I was planning on going with AMD as it is cheaper than a Pentium. I figured an AMD XP 2000 should be sufficient processing power. I was looking at the Asus A7N266-VM as the motherboard as it has built in video and has good feedback, unlike the other, cheaper boards on Newegg. Since it has a AGP port, I could always upgrade the video in the future, if needed.

Does this sound reasonable. I know I could get better motherboards but I am trying not to spend too much money. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Glen

If you go with amd, get an nforce 2 board. Newegg has a pretty good selection. You can get a regular version without alot of options for under $100. Epox and msi are the better values.

agree with oldie...plus the onboard sound on these NF2 mobos is good enough to unseat many PCI soundcards. You may be able to sell the 5.1 card you bought, unless it's a super high end model. Also, go with the Athlon XP 2100+ Tbred B from Newegg. It's got a great price point and will OC like mad if/when you choose to do so.
