recommendation for a new Monitor

Hello,

never really paid much attention to monitors. but i'am starting to get annoyed with my 15 inch screen.
Can anyone recommend a good monitor? i'am looking for a CRT monitor, at least 19inch.

I've heard that the samsung monitors are nice, what do you all think? also, where would you recommend getting it from? i mean local shop or online? i guess shipping a monitor can easily add $30.00 for shipping.

thanks

Good monitor... hmmm I think it depends on what you're doing and how much you want to spend. I assume you're not a graphic artist or a hardcore gamer if you still have a 15" monitor 😉 I have worked with several brands (NEC 21", Princeton 21", Septre 19", ADS 19", Viewsonic 19"....... and lots more).
What it really comes down to is you (mostly) get what you pay for. The monitor I am currently using at work is a NEC Accusync 120 (21") w/ a .24 dp... Works great for the CAD/solidworks design I do. This monitor is not top of the line (I work for a small company), but it certainly is decent quality (IMO). I got it through Dell for around $450 delivered when they were having a sale. You can find NEC 19"ers delivered to your door for about $250.
If you do get it through Dell, and if you can wait, I'd suggest waiting for a sale, or free shipping. A great place I check out bargans is at Got|Apex you'll find discounts and coupons for stuff there.
Also you may want to use Price Grabber if you decide to buy online. You can search for a particular model and find the best price (tax and shipping included).

Good Luck.....

EDIT
I just checked out Got|Apex and they're showing this stuff at Dell, guess it's your lucky day 🙂 Go to the website to get the links... I think I'd go for the Sony myself...

wow, thanks for the link.

that samsung 21 inch mon looks nice, and i guess $404 is a good price for a 21 inch

thanks again, gonna look around

man, how sweet would DUAL 21 inch monitors be...ahhhhhh 🙂

I can almost guarantee you that any 21" monitor that cheap is going to have a poor image quality. You may want to do your homework. Monitors are one thing that I usually buy retail because I want to see the image for myself and shipping back a bad unit is co$tly.

Not to be inflamatory hausdave, but do you really think a Flat Sony Trinitron 21" w/.24 dp is gonna look like crap? Doubtful....

The 21" monitor I currently use for mechanical design applications cost $440, and I love it....

Just my plug nickel.....

yeah, i agree, i would like to see the image up front befire i drop a bunch of money on it.

i was checking some retail store prices for the samsung 955df, the prices were very comparable to online prices, plus, samsung has a $30.00 rebate right now.

i get out of work early today, so i think i'll stop by J and R and check it out.
but thank you for the suggestions

OK...I am in a similar situation. Looking for a 19" monitor under $300. I will list the ones I like. Let me know what you all think would be the best choice. All are 19" and within $30 of each other.

1. Hitachi CM721FB

2. Sony G400

3. Phillips 109B20

What do you all think? Monitor will be used for gaming and design (CAD and graphics).

Thanks all

i got a samsung 950p (discontinued !) off ebay...175 + s/h...awesome ! (It took me a long time to look if anyone still has the 950p and finally found one on ebay..so happy 🙂

I dont know about the 955df or the 900nf....they're certainly not bad monitors...but it's kinda hard to get an idea here on the forum and decide since i remember i got many/many recommendations for monitors...making me more confused which one to get. The 950p was the only one i knew it was good..so it was a no brainer 🙂

Usually you can add $36 to $45 shipping if you order a 19" -but (see above) you might very well consider looking around on ebay maybe you get some good deals, too.

greets

I have the Samsung 955DF and I love it! I got it from dell for $180 after coupons and a rebate. The 955df is great if you are on a budget or you can get the 900NF for about $300. If you would like a 21" then the 1200NF is a great monitor for that size. I hope to someday have a dual monitor setup with a 1200NF as my primary and the 955DF as by secondary.
