recommendation....FAST!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Just flashed my Bios on my Gigabyte 8SRX, and it's now dead! BOTH Bios are fried somehow...maybe if I'm lucky it will work tomorrow....

but I need a prospective board, fast. I'm looking at the Gigabyte 8IEXP, for the features, price, and OC capabilities. Is this a good choice, or should I go for an i845G board, which has better performance overall, and is relatively the same price. I want an 8IGXP, but they don't seem to exist....but the 8IGX looks pretty good.

Need something fast, (preferrably) cheap, and stable at high speeds. Looking at the MSI 845G MaxL, Gigabyte 8IEXP/8IG. Or maybe even some older chipsets, which still run fast, and are now very cheap (8IRXP for example). What would ya'll suggest?

I'm thinking that I'm probably going to get an sis 648dx in the fall, which is why I don't want to spend a whole bunch right now....but good OC (and PCI/AGP lock!) are a must, and most importantly.....stability.

UPDATE: 7/15/02

OK, OK, old topic. But I ended up buying a Gigabyte 8IGX today instead. Best mobo I could find locally, and I like the dual bios. Anyway, not as many OC options, with no asynch dividers, but the board is already running faster and more stable. Also, It let me do 155 fsb at 1.65v, which is good enough for me. I can do fsb 140 at stock voltage. No DDR 333 divider, but at my current fsb setting, I'm at DDR 412 anyway...so no big deal. This is a seriously good board...and the memory scores are awesome! I wish it was an 8IGXP though.....

The msi 6547e with sis 645dx chipset is only $71 (pricewatch), but the vender's website has been down lately. Check again if interested.

Try leaving the computer's power cable unplugged for a long period of time. Like an hour maybe. That fixed it for me when I had BIOS trouble.

Edited for spelling.

I left the power cable off overnight, and tried it again. No go. It's fried alright. I don't see how BOTH the bios got screwed...

I think I'm just gonna buy an MSI 845E-Max2 GL from Compusa. A bit pricier than newegg ($140 vs $126 from newegg), but at least I can get it up and running the same day.

Has anyone had experience with this board? I read all the reviews, and it seems to be a pretty good performer. I'm most interested in pci/agp lock options as well as possibly asynch settings. I LOVE the gigabyte boards' ability to do asynchronous overclocking....!

Anyway, the MSI was the most decent mobo for a decent price I found. I'll see if I can find any mom and pop computer stores to find a better mobo though....

yeah yeah, I know I could get a better deal online (god bless the internet!) but I'm dying without a mobo!
