recommend some space opera books to me

E.E. Doc Smith - Lensmen series, Vortex Blaster, Skylark series
Brian Daley - Terran Inheritance series (Requiem for a Ruler of Worlds +2)
Edmond Hamilton - Starwolf
James Schmitz - the Baen Telzey & Trigger books edited by Flint, Witches of Karres
Sharon Lee & Steve Miller - Liaden series, The Tomorrow Log
Janet Kagan - Hellspark

"A Fire Upon the Deep" by Vernor Vinge is supposed to be the shizzle. I keep forgetting to pick that one up when I'm at the book store.

The Exordium series by Sherwood Smith and Dave Trowbridge. The books are The Phoenix in Flight, Ruler of Naught, Prison Unsought, Rifter's Covenant, and The Thrones of Kronos. If you can find copies of it at a reasonable price (book two gave me problems when I was collecting it, and especially book four) then it's a fantastic read.

And I'm an absolutely huge Alistair Reynolds fan, so anything by him.

Dude, you need to read the Deathstalker series if you want space opera. Simon Greene

that was the series that got me into the genre back in high school 🙂 it was too bad they went down hill so fast after the 3rd book.

It is excellent. The universe is a bit strange though..

The cycle by Gene Wolfe that begins with The Shadow of the Torturer. Some of the most well-written books you'll ever read, in any genre.

Or if you want quick, non-cerebral, and tons of fun, check out Simon R. Green's Deathstalker series.
