Recommend some really fun Family Board Games

Kelemvor

Lifer
So we just got back from a camp we go to every winter where we spend most of the timep laying board games with lots of people and it's always a blast. I'm looking for some recommendations on board games you have played and that you'd recommend for a family (grade school kids on up).

Put the game name on one line. Include a link if you have one.
Then feel free to put in a description and why you like it so much.

I'll go first.

Cloud 9

This game is cool because all you have to do is roll some dice and then guess if the person has the cards they rolled. Anyone can play even if they don't really understand the strategy. We played with kids as young as 6 along with adults and all had a blast.

OH YEAH!

I just bought a few myself.

Not for the really little ones though, the ponies feel like they are made from really fragile Fimo/Sculpey and the various parts (hair/tail/wings) are barely attached. So, easily broken and possible choking hazard.

Also, you'll need more money if you play more than ~4 people. Banker was running outta money and had to do more complicated math/exchanges/payments.

There are some speed rules included, mostly consisting of passing out some random properties at start, and only 3 houses (vs 4) needed for hotel. This seemed to make the game more fun with more people as everybody started with stuff (no complaints of going last and landing on everything everybody else bought).

And no money on free parking!

Oh my hell, talk about a thread with people who have no idea what they are talking about.

Good easy to play games:

Ticket to Ride (trains on a map)
King of Tokyo (dice rolling monster smashing)
Lords of Waterdeep (worker placement)
Dominion (card deck building)
Pandemic (coop virus killing)
Carcasonne (tile laying on a map)

You are welcome young padawan. After these blow your uno-monopoly mind go to boardgamegeek.com to see a new world.

None of those beats my little pony. Even if if it happens to be monopoly.
Any of those games could be vastly improved upon.

I've played most of those games. Not sure I can see a 6 year old playing them however.

Battlestar Galactica - Family loves it, generally speaking, but there have been a couple times when I was the Cylon but had our kids convinced it was my wife. That pissed her off so we haven't played in a while. Can be a bit complicated for kids, but ours are really into games so there's enough patience to get it done. It's one of those games that once you get through one session, you realize it's not all that complex.

Letters from Whitechapel - Awesome family game as long as the subject matter doesn't bother you (Jack the Ripper). Our kids are 10 and 11, so we re-theme it a bit when we play (instead of playing Whack-A-Bitch, it's a robbery). My wife or I will be Jack, while the other will work with the kids to hunt Jack. Super fun game that's really easy to learn. What's nice about this game is it's 2 - 6 players: 1v1 up to 1v5. It's a very different game depending on how many are playing, which gives it a lot of replayability.

Game of Thrones - Our daughter (the 10 year old) doesn't like this game, but it's actually more complicated than Battlestar Gallactica. It requires a LOT of strategy and careful cooperation with other players at certain points. It's also a very long game. Since it's just my son, myself, and my wife playing, we tend to not play it much. It really needs 4 players and it's no fun leaving our daughter out. We'll play this if our daughter is out with friends, because my son actually loves it.

Parcheesi and Yahtzee. When I was a kid that game didn't really matter. It was just a big deal getting to hang with the grown ups.

+1 for Apples to Apples, one of the few games my family won't kill each other over

Uno as well, although that's not a card game either.

I played Apples to Apples with my friends and their kids - 9 and 11 years old. It was the 1st time and it was quite fun.

Go (board game, not the card game)
Sorry
Mille Borne (card game)
Spoons
Probably too old for Chutes and Ladders (Snakes and Ladders)
