Recommend some parental control software?

techs

Lifer
I need to recommend three parental control software programs for the internet.
What's good nowadays?
Thank

I only use OpenDNS. It's not parental control per se, but it can serve that purpose. It would probably be best to couple it with another software package.

These are relatively unsophisticated users. Something easier is what I had in mind.

It's been awhile, and the only names I remember are NetNanny and CyberPatrol. Are these still decent programs?

I recognize those names, but I don't use them myself. I tried a free filter for awhile but I can't remember what the name was. It worked, but it was a little too aggressive, and ruined the web imo. Development ended on it, so the name isn't even important. Anyway, that's why I like OpenDNS. I'd be concerned that any of the packages would filter too hard, and not have good controls.

Check out both of the ones you mentioned. If there's still active development, they'd probably be the way to go.

I did some research and NetNanny seems to have the best reviews. It looks like CyberPatrol had some kind company reorganization, and I can't seem to get a handle on how well the software works now.

It looks like you can trial Netnanny. You have to give them your email, and I didn't want to do that :^D

You could give the trial a shot, maybe load it into a VM to see how it works.

When I used the built-in Vista Parental Control stuff from MS, for when my brother-in-law was using our computer, it worked surprisingly well. I think the latest stuff would be Windows Live Family Safety. Might give that a shot....could use it conjunction with OpenDNS.
