I have $80 worth of Barnes and Noble store credit and I was wondering what have you guys been reading and what's worth buying? I usually read history or science fiction books.

I just finished Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. I'd recommend it.

I also like the Dark Tower Series by Stephen King, lots of stuff by Orson Scott Card, and virtually anything by R.A. Heinlein.

The God Delusion by Dawkins is..interesting. If you like things in that vein then I'd also recommend Sam Harris.

History... I just bought these two books in a sort of collection called "Roman Warfare" and "Wars of the Ancient Greeks". I think they're pretty interesting, especially the one about the Greeks. It provides some fascinating insight into the development of all Western warfare from the ancient era onwards.

3 books that will end up causing you to buy about 50 sequels and spend way more than that $80

Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks
Magician by Raymond E. Feist
A Game of Throns by George R.R. Martin

edit: also highly reccomend anything by Robert E. Heinlein esp The Moon is A Harsh Mistress

Robert Holdstock's Mythago Wood series is very good.

Glen Cook's new Instrumentalities of the Night books are good but will tax your memory, tons of characters to keep track of.

For non-fiction, Richard Rhodes - The making of the Atomic Bomb and Dark Sun are excellent reads.

Just about anything by Glen Cook, in particular The Dread Empire, The Black Company & The Garrett Files

Pillars of the earth by Ken Follett is excellent too.

For science fiction, I'd recommend George R.R. Martin's Sandkings, and Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game. Really easy, entertaining reads, and cheap in paperback. I hear the rest of the books after Ender's Game are pretty good too, but I've never read them...

History wise, McCullough's John Adams is pretty good, if you like biographical stuff. Harry Turtledove's alternative history books (Civil War in particular) are entertaining, but a little hit and miss- some are great, other are just mediocre.
