Recommend: quiet but good HSF for athlon xp 1500+

Alright I'm going to donate my old athlon xp 1500+ computer to my church, but first I need to replace the HSF on this, because it's WAY too loud and hot. This isn't overclocked at all.

Please recommend a cheap, quiet, good one 🙂

I was going to suggest the GC68 from svc.com but I guess they don't sell those anymore. Too bad you don't live in the bay area, I'd give you mine, I have 2. But this would do the trick, just add an 80mm fan: http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/thal.html

This one is AWESOME! I've used it on my Barton 2500+ and it keeps it below 40C with very very little thermal grease. I only put a paperthin application of thermal grease.

I agree with Lava. I've used a WhisperRock II on my system and it works great. Just got to be careful when clipping it on - it has a mighty grip!. Might want to remove the fan while mounting the heatsink then reattach the fan. That made it easier for me.

I've never used the WhisperRock, but it looks like the exact same thing as the FalconRock (except the FalconRock has the copper insert, the 3-clip connector and a slower fan). They're both really good deals. I never realized they both have quantity pricing, too. $7.49 delievered when you buy 6+ FalconRocks is definitely the best deal on heatsinks I've ever seen.

Yup, either one is just fine - but he wanted CHEAP... And the WRII is a bit less than the FR. I would now probably go for the FR instead, if only because of the triple hole clip.

I like the falconrock, but I think it has a lot to do with the name SPEEZE. Oh, and it's working great on my 2ghz athlon. 🙂

He's asking for a cheap heatsink for a non-overclocked 1500, and you couldn't help but brag about your $40 overclocker heatsink.
