I know you're not into cop shows, but try The Wire. It really is very different to most procedural cop shows. Try a few episodes from the first season, you may just love it.
 
I watched the first season of the wire, and it was ok. I can't get into the second season. I'm about 7 episodes in and I just can't get myself to watch the rest.

I did not like Buffy at all back in the day, way too cheesy, and yeah I have seen the X-Files and Curb your Enthusiasm, my fav comedy ever
