Looking for RAM suggestions for a water cooled QX6700 build.

Will be overclocking.

Looking to buy the Evga 680i board or the Asus 680i board to pair with it.

What RAM will yield best results while overclocking?

Will be doing 2x1GB (2gigs).

Thanks!

Won't higher ram frequency still translate into higher memory bandwidth, and from there higher performance? Doesn't highly clocking memory still matter?

YES, YES, and YES

Faster memory is better. Running DDR2-533 because "it's cheap" is limiting performance.

Although...

get This Crucial 10th Anniversary DDR2-667 uses Micron D9GMH ICs and can do DDR2-800 at 3-3-3-12 at 2.2v and DDR2-1000 at 4-4-4-12 2.3v (results may vary but are extremely likely).

However the C2D is not necessary bandwidth starved so if you can get by using divders and keeping the ram close to 800ddr cas 4 andything higher at often times higher cas timings is not going to make much of a difference. I only noticed 2-3% in performance going from single channel to dual channel...i think that speaks volumes about the C2D's perceived bandwidth needs...

Are the Dominator 1111MHz's completely worthless then? I was looking to buy some. If $500 worth of ram make a $5k computer 5% faster than using $300 ram then isn't the price/performance ratio tippped in favor of the spendier ram?

If you are doing over 500Mhz FSb then it's not worthless, or if you want to run a memory ratio and put DDR2-1100+

Although I have some crucial 10th anniversary running DDR2-800 3-3-3-8 prime/memtest stable with 2.2v and DDDR2-1000 5-4-4-12 Prime/memtest stable at 2.3v

for $229 it's a helluva deal

Go to tomshardware and read the reviews. They say this processor is no better than the x6700 in games. It IS ONLY good for multi tasking. And you do not need to OC doing that.

And your point? The OP doesn't mention gaming so how do you know their needs?

How did you get gaming only from my original post?

Why would I get a quad core if I wasn't doing Video encoding and so on.

I didn't think I needed to specify that :)

Well, you are using a 9750 GX2 so one could assume you are a gamer.

WHY NOT!?!?! *panic* :Q

seriously though most ppl just assume it's a purpose built gaming machine because of one's video card selection.

I should edit this thread though, cause the Quad core is waiting till next year...LOL

Doing the Dual core thing now.

Same thing I guess with the RAM suggestions so ;)

I was going to recommend the crucial anniversary 677 kit, but they are gone at newegg, mine will run 500 @ 4-4-4-12 2.25v

So how many seconds before it fails in Orthos blend ;)?

Oh, & for a pretty much guaranteed good OC, Team Xtreem ftw :)
