Recommend me some overlooked thrillers/horror movies

I was googling best/top thrillers last night and watched one called Blue Ruin, it is an indie revenge/payback movie

It was ok, I saw a couple more that looked interesting that I may watch next.
Killer Joe

Kill List

I am more interested in drama/serious/weird movies, stuff like The Invitation I watched a few months back which I liked

Blue Ruin was great! It was filled to the brim with tension and it seemed plausible and real. Very little "suspension of disbelief" was needed.

I also loved Saulnier's first film "Murder Party" (comedy horror type, not at all a thriller)

Haven't seen the others you mentioned though ...

I just watched "The Wave" which hit all the cliches for disaster movies, but I didn't care, it was well put together and nicely shot and acted. Very intense film and pretty suspenseful.

I think my favorite suspense films are Korean films like the Vengeance trillogy, Chaser, I saw the Devil, or Yellow Sea, or of course Hitchcock films (Rear Window, North by Northwest happen to be my personal faves)

For something different, have you seen Blue Velvet, The 3rd Man, or Black Swan?

I watched Killer Joe a couple months back. It was okay. I didn't find it to be very scary or tense. More like strange.

Triangle (2009) was pretty decent.

The Changeling (1980) George C Scott. Probably overlooked by anyone under 40.

Jacob's Ladder (1990) If you're into it, it's a freaky movie.

Both of these should be watched at night with your phone turned off. No multitasking.

reanimator

(i saw it when i was at 1st year med school, really funny)

I could I enjoyed a long while back that I don't think received a ton of attention:

Session 9
They (Wes Craven Presents: They)
1408

It's a series, and new, and definitely not overlooked but you may have missed it: Stranger Things on Netflix (it's a slow burn, but amazing, and some nice thriller/horror elements that keep you on the edge of your seat at times)

check out the new movie... The Green Room with the late chekov actor from star trek.

Same director as Blue Ruin too, which he mentioned in the OP.

Kill List is awesome. I like Killer Joe a lot too, though it feels a bit more like a play.

Some others I thought were decent/good:

The Guest: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2980592/?ref_=nv_sr_1
The Gift: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4178092/?ref_=nv_sr_1
You're Next leans horror, but it's quite entertaining: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1853739/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Enemy is amazing, but you have to be open to stuff that is a little weirder: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2316411/?ref_=nv_sr_1
The Ghost Writer; I don't think a tonne of people saw this one, but it's an old school, straightforward kind of mystery and I loved it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1139328/
Repulsion is one of the greatest psychological thrillers of all time; if you havenot seen it, I highliy recommend it, though you need to be ok with old, black and white films: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059646/?ref_=nv_sr_1

I was going to recommend The Gift as well. I never heard of it and it was a random rental, but it was pretty good.
