Ooh yes quackerww, old Sid Meier games were good. Civilization and Colonization also come to mind.

YOu look like you like shooters and FPS/RPG combo's. Try the expansions to all the games you've played. Stalker 2, the Fear's, FarCry 2, Bioshock.

What kind of games are you interested in? FPS?

I'd say go for Unreal Tournament 2004. You can still find populated Onslaught servers and Invasion Monster Mash RPG servers.

(Invasion RPG is like a shooting gallery where the targets shootback and your character can level up and gain abilities. The server remembers your identity and saves your stats so you can pick up where you left off when you log back in.)

Indeed, as others have mentioned already, visit www.gog.com for a superb collection of good old games, I myself bought the Earthworm Jim pack, the original Fallout, Fallout 2, MDK2 and Beyond Good & Evil there, and they're all working flawlessly in Vista without any tweaks, just install and have a blast (and there's extra content as well, such as wallpapers, soundtracks, avatars, etc).

Check out http://www.direct2drive.com/d2dturns5 now and over the next few weeks. They are selling olderish games for $5 to celebrate their fifth anniversary.

Notable $5 games this week: Bioshock, Chronicles of Riddick - Assault on Dark Athena (includes entire Escape from Butcher Bay, which was good), STALKER (on your list), Far Cry (oldie, but goodie).

Wow, that's awesome. There's at least five games there I would buy: Bioshock,CoR,Civ 4,Thief:DS,MLB 2K9.

So D2D is totally legit and problem-free?

That D2D deal looks nice but I've heard the PC version of Saints Row 2 is awful. Which sucks because I want to play the game but I don't want to spend the $30+ it costs to get the 360 version when I could get the PC version for $5.

What I especially like about GoG is that they seem to test the games on modern hardware and OSs, and fix any problems. They must have access to the source code. I got the Incoming games from there and they work fine, even though I know my original Incoming copy is unplayable on modern computers (the game runs but at like 0.5 fps).

Be sure to get Freespace Open as well, the community has upgraded the engine and graphics a TON, and it's free, it does require retail FS2 though. It's at hard-light.net

The Command and Conquer series? I'm partial to Red Alert 2 / Yuri's Revenge, but I think they're all at least decent.

If you want to go REALLY old school on a turn-based strategy game look for Master of Orion 2, but you'll need dosbox to play it.
