It's more near future than sci-fi. A good movie about a guy trying to come out on top despite being destined to fail.

Saw most of those italian mafia movies as well, you also forgot Bronx Tale & Mystic River.

Amazing movies.
make sure the girl leans over to open your door! thats when you know she's a keeper.

btw, you didnt make no mention of 'gattaca'. have you seen it before? i dont even like the sci-fi genre but that movie was just incredible. my dvd is getting worn down from watching it so much. ill also recommend 'frequency'.

Sounded geeky so I just disregarded it. I have no interest in Star Wars/Trek stuff. How IS gattaca?

Heresy!!!

its really good. in fact, im not a fan of the star wars/star trek either. in fact, ive never seen a whole star wars movie because i keep falling asleep. but this movie is good in that it keeps a good sense of our present reality, while just showing how things can be in the future. but the plot and the good performances is what makes the movie.

How about some old school westerns:

You've probably seen the more popular ones, but there are a few less well known ones I would recommend:

High Em High - Eastwood early film, lots of sensless violence...revenge, murder, beatings...

Valdez is Coming - This is a very good film if you can ignore the crappy make up/costumes... Its an allegory for the life of Christ, but with guns, murder, and the obligatory cruxifiction.

The Wild Bunch - Sam Peckinpaws opus... this is actually a very well know movie, and is one of the very best westerns ever made. Many people have never seen it though.

The Deer Hunter is probably my all time favorite movie. It's about how a group of friends are affected by the Vietnam War. Definitely see it. DeNiro is in it as well. Magnolia is just weird...really weird, but I liked it as do many others.

I'm only 23. I'm not into Westerns originally. I probably haven't even seen the famous ones you assume.

Infernal Affairs <-- Highly recommended
Paths of Glory
Il Postino
8 1/2
A Clockwork Orange
Y tu mama tambien
Amores Perros

Anything by Pedro Almodovar ("Talk to Her" is a good place to start)

I could go on and on, those are just the ones off of the top of my head.

You're actually recommending "The Quick and the Dead"? That's an awful, awful movie. Truly terrible piece of film.

If you've seen just about everything, by this time it's probably your best bet to consider GOING OUT.
