So the local chain store down the street carries a very wide variety of beer, they have an entire walk in cooler for it all with lots to choose from. A friend of mine is coming in from out of town and we're just going to hang out, enjoy some food, play some Halo 3 and watch a few movies.

I am looking for some suggestions on a good beer, price isn't an issue. But I don't think any beer would be good enough to be $50 for a six pack.

So does anyone have any favorites to suggest? Ones who've heard to be good?

Thanks :)

The store carries dead guy ale, and it seems to be pretty popular.

Thanks :)

Dead Guy is good stuff.

Can't go wrong with Guinness, Newcastle, Honey Brown, Smithwicks, Harp...

I'm sure others will add.

Thanks for the input.

If it makes any sense, I am looking for a beer with more flavor to it then just the usual cheap stuff. No necessarily more of a "beer" flavor, but something with more taste.

That might not make sense, but I don't know a lot about beer if you can't tell. :p

Some stuff I've been enjoying lately (I wait for beers to go on sale)

Black Butte Porter (Deschutes Brewery)
Beck's Octoberfest
Alaskan Amber

I'm not a fan of overly hoppy beers which are all of the rage in American craft beers.

That's very diversified list there. Guinness is way too bitter for me, maybe it's some such lack I have in testosterone and I found Smithwicks much too light for my tastes, kind of like miller water.

All of those i listed have more flavor to them. Harp is probably the most like a "normal" beer. The others are not at all.

Most of the Oktoberfest beers out right now are pretty good. Spaten Oktoberfest is always a favorite. And another vote for Alaskan Amber too...that's a good one.

Henry's Summer Wheat is great stuff; especially if you drop a slice of orange in it.

I've never heard Smithwicks to be light or compared to an american lager or pilsner. That's a first...

Alaskan Amber is mighty tasty too.

I know you can get Sierra Nevada pale ale in California... how about where you are? It's pretty good. And Anchor Steam is pretty good too. Those are the only beers I know of that I think you might be able to get there.

GUINNESS

Murphy's is less heavy Guinness

Any microbrewery usually has some good selections

Brewing your own is the best way, and it's something I've been meaning to try (in a few years, maybe when I'm less poor)

Other than that, head to your local beer store (or BevMo if you don't know of any beer coolers near you) and ask the guys that work there for some recommendations. That's the best way; you'll get an honest answer and you can buy it and bring it home right then and there.

I really have nothing positive to say except John's Market in Multnomah Village and to say that everyone's taste is individual. Oh, and Rogue sucks.
