Recommend me some emo music...

i don't like to classify them as such but...

The Postal Service

they are amazing, luckily most people exclude them without merit so still somewhat less-known

heroin - self titled
cap'n jazz-Analphabetapolothology
at the drive in - relationship of command
american football - self titled
Mineral - EndSerenading

should be something in there that you might like

and to a "purist" (not me) anything that isn't some offshoot of hardcore/punk wouldn't be emo. So the dashboardy whiny stuff isn't really emo, but what mtv branded it.

what you call saves the day/sunny day real estate/the get up kids/taking back sunday/brand new/the stryder...? I dunno, I'd label them as emo ::shrug::

I'd say the most popular actual emo band would have been at the drive in, but that's just my opinion.

I don't really know what emo is. I looked it up on wikipedia, and I'm still not sure. What sounds like emo to me is Mazzy Star, and I love them.

enlighten me then (no seriously)

you can't. Are we talking 80s D.C. emocore? Are we talking 90s emo that include bands like Promise Ring, SDRE and the like? Or are talking MTV "emo" with My Chemical Romance and crap like that?

Defining music to a genre is retarded and impossible.
