Most of the books that I have read (or attempted to read) about politics have bored me to tears or disgusted me so much that I just had to stop reading them.

Have you ever considered that there are many political aspects to the Bible? It can be considered just a book. As a book it contains thoughts of men and some people beleive God from throughout the time span. It is after all a collection of books and not a single book, and it was written over a long period of time. In the 1800's it was often the only book some people could afford to own and it was also the book people often learned to read from. To read it is to understand the western world.

A book about a black leader might be a good idea. Another idea might be a book about mr Lovejoy who was an abolitionist that was killed in Alton, IL. He was a minister, an abolitionist, and he published a newspaper and was a journalist so to speak. He died for his beliefs in the treatment of the black man as a human being and not just as a slave. His grave sight is not far from where I live.

A roomate gave me the biography of Malcolm X which I found to be interesting. I read the entire book and found it to have a
lot of twists and turns. I dont recall who wrote it. It was more about his personal journey in life than about him being a leader.

Another book I like is "Accidental Empires" by Robert X Cringely

This book is about the computer industry and more about the business of computers but it is really an interesting book.

I also like this book about Brigham Young:
Brigham Young, American Moses, by Leonard J. Arrington, Univ of Illinois Press
The Author was Lemuel Redd Professor of Western History, at BYU
The book is well written and covers both the bad and the good.
Brigham Young was a guiding force helping over 60 thousand people to immigrate to the west
from as far south as Las Vegas, Nevada to the area north of what is know as Utah.

I also got a lot of insight into the area of insanity and the mind altering ability of alcohol by reading what alcoholics
call the AA Bible. It is a book written by doctor Bill. I think the copyright is lapsed and you can read it online.

If you think you cant stop drinking this might be an interesting read, or it might scare you.

Ever consider the Book of Mormon?
It has many interesting stories.
In one point the people are involved in a big war and the general of the army
has to leave a skeleton army to control the front and take his army back
to force the government to support the military force that is protecting them.
There are also the Kingmen who try to take over their free society, and the
judges that all tried to control the legal system. Then there were secret
societies that cooperated with each other to illegally get gain. The Gadianton robbers
who tried to steal everything that was not nailed down were also defeated by
a devilish form of trickery. If this sounds like society today, maybe you can learn a lot from it.
