sounds like someone that bought monster.

My brother ordered a cheap HDMI cable for my parents from some online store. It was really really thin and it didn't work at all.

I ended up ordering from Monoprice.com.

When it comes to digital cables as long as the signal gets to point A to point B, that's all that matters.

Analog cables....Get em thick and get em gold. lol.

I got my first HDMI cable at pricegrabber.com and it worked great, then I found out about monoprice.com and so far the prices seem cheaper and the cables are better than the expensive ass retail ones.

As most retail HDMI cables don't have Ferrite Cores on the cable: http://www.monoprice.com/produ...id=4155&seq=1&format=2

I almost forgot, but this thread reminded me. The ATT uverse tech that came out for my install told me NOT to use HDMI because it was lower quality and instead to use.....component.

I almost laughed at him.

Well that is true in some cases. Especially with set top boxes, many of them crush dynamic range when they use HDMI and there isn't a way to fix it, except to use component. There isn't much difference between the two anyway. I don't use HDMI from my cable box for this very reason, component looks MUCH better.

I'm all for the cheap monoprice cables.. especially the colored ones. I picked up one of each of the colors they had at the time so all my HDMI devices have a specific color that makes it easy to know what's what. 😛

A very practical suggestion. I'll keep a lookout for the next time I go cable hunting!

I havn't tried using component on it (because I don't have any component cables), but the HDMI from uverse looks a lot better then the component output I had with my dish network.

Plus, it's much easier on the cable management. My tv stand has 3 HDMI cables (xbox, ps3, uverse) plus all the uverse crap (ups, phone lines, coax to run it to upstairs, cat5 from the router, etc). Then there is the another cat5 running to the airport extreme, then there is more from that running to the xbox and ps3, plus all the power cables. Any simplicity is worth it imho.

I actually prefer BlueJeanCable over Monoprice. They feel like they're better quality and more flexible. Last time I bought a Monoprice cable I felt like it was putting too much pressure on one of my HDMI ports because it was so stiff. I'd rather pay a little extra on a cable than damage an HDMI port on my TV. Now I was running my cables through a cable manager, so if you want to just plug your cable in and leave it loose, you should be fine with Monoprice cables. But whatever HDMI cable you decide on, make sure it is HDMI 1.3.

I love eavesdropping on Best Buy employees trying to sell someone on $100 monster cables, good times.

I work at Target and some douche was buying a PS3 and asked me what HDMI cable he needed. I tried to be nice and point him towards monoprice.com where he could get one for around $6. He looked at me like I was stupid and extremely rudely told me that he just bought a (overpriced) Sony Bravia HDTV and he wasn't gonna hook it up to his PS3 with a "fuckin cheap-ass $6 cable". He shook his head at me in disappointment and grabbed a $65 Sony "Made for PS3" HDMI cable and walked away.

That's the last person I ever tried to warn about overpriced HDMI cables.

What a moron.

Monoprice FTW.

Go ahead and order 4-5 and then sell them for $10 bucks to anyone else that might need them. It hurts to spend as much to shop the cable ~$3 as the cable iteself...LOL. 🙂

Has anyone mentioned monoprice yet? 😉

Yet another win for PT Barnum.

I never understood why people say, since the transmission is digital, the cable doesn't matter. Of course it matters. That's why, even at monoprice, you see different guages. IMHO, get the best quality at monoprice and call it a day.

There is always a difference in quality between cables, irrespective of it being digital.

I read a long while back that Monoprice cables work just as well up until long distances (I don't remember the footage). After that, they're ever so slightly worse than the expensive cables.

Due to DRM issues (mainly the HDCP handshake with your TV), sub-par digital output, and the fact that a U-Verse STB can only output up to 1080i anyway; a component cable will give you the same picture without any digital DRM headaches. The only reason to use HDMI on U-Verse is if you really must use one cable for audio and video.

Oh yes, monoprice.com is my one stop shop for cables. I whole-heartedly and highly recommend their site to anyone.

Sometimes I buy extra HDMI cables at Monoprice and give them out to people at Best Buy when they are getting sold on Monster.

Actually, I don't, but it would be fun to try. 🙂

Word.

Working retail for four years definitely opens your eyes to just how stupid the average consumer is. Yes, I mean stupid, not ignorant. The failure of the human brain to comprehend basic logic will always puzzle me.

When a guest asks me where something is in my store, that I know better than the back of my hand from running the instock team and has the BALLS to tell me that I'm wrong... Guess what, that sponge you were looking for? Yeah we just moved it upstairs next to the patio furniture, have a nice day.

Youve just opened my eyes to just how much of a dick sales reps can be.

I might have to try that out. I have a lot of speaker cables form bluejeans, but I believe all of my HDMI are from monoprice. they've completely wrecked one of the HDMI ports on my A/V Receiver and one on my TV. I currently have the cable in the wrecked Receiver port held in place *only* by wedging the stiff cable between receiver and wall. It would simply fall out, otherwise.
🙁
