Recommend me an Ultra 320 68 pin SCSI

Looking for a a high performance Ultra 320 SCSI drive, in preferably a 300G option, 146 the smallest.

I've seen a few already. I've gone through Storage Review but i'm starting to wonder about their reviews.

Fujitsu 300G
Seagate Cheetah 15.5
Need more options from people with experience.

I am not interested in Raptors, large 1Tb drives, SSD drives, etc SSD drives need to improve before I purchase one, and now I'm in the market for a 68pin u320 SCSI

p.s. The faster the better (if that makes any sense)

What about SAS? Have a controller already?

My preference is Fujitsu MBA series. Great desktop AND server performance across the board.

Just the person I was looking for. I already have an Adaptec 29320 LPE PCI-e card ... so you would recommend the Fuj over the Seagate? Why?

EDIT: I will also have to pick up another cable. I've seen one at the Egg but with no Terminator - Do I need a terminator with my setup?

Yes you need a terminator at the end of the cable. Get only as many positions as you need so if you have one drive you need a three position cable. (one at host, one at drive, one at terminator). The connector for the terminator will be within an inch of the last device, etc.

Cheetah's and Fujitsu's are both good - nothing wrong with either but my experience points towards the latter as the last Cheetah's I had were X1536LP (the second gen Cheetah) and they ran nice but warm and oh boy did they make some noise! Fujitsu's are definitely better on the desktop if you want the absolute best performance though.

EDIT: Wow nice price on the 300GB drive! 😀

Could you recommend me a cable from one of your vendors you go through? I'll only be using 1 drive and probably the 300 open box then from New Egg. I need to make all the purchases over the weekend so...

SCSI4me.com and Hypermicro.com are good folks to use. It's been forever but Hypermicro would make the cables for you. Just call them up and tell them how long and where to put the connectors and they will do it for you. You can do this yourself but I would seriously not do this unless you were making lots of custom cables!
