Hello all,
My beloved Iphone was shattered in an attempted robbery yesterday morning on the NYC subway. Some kid tried to pry it out of my hand, but I had some kind of death grip on it and he could not. During the struggle, which was on the stairway leading to the 4,5 train, someone else yanked the kid's hand off my phone, but also yanked the phone out of my hand. As other commuters were streaming all around us on the staircase, someone trampled it.
The screen is completely ruined. It's not just cracked glass; the backlight functions and I can still interact with it (i can even take calls via muscle memory) but I can't see a thing. The phone is also still functional - when I plug it in to my PC, it boots Itunes, etc.
Anyway, I called AT&T and Apple. Apple claimed to be capable of replacing the screen for a svelte $200, but when I brought it to the store, the genius bar advised me that they can only repair cracked glass, not an eviscerated touch screen.
AT&T, for its part, told me that (1) I would need to reup my contract for another 2 years in order to purchase another Iphone and (2) that I would also be given the pleasure of having to pay the full MSRP for the phone, despite agreeing to a new contract - a brisk $500. Oh, and if I didn't buy a new device, I'd still have to pay my phone bill or be reported to a collection agency. I resisted the urge to punch the guy in the face.
So, I'm strongly considering giving AT&T and its shit network the finger, giving them their cancellation fee with the hopes they choke on it, and subsequently going back to Verizon. The Droid and the Droid Incredible both look awesome. A few questions:
I couldn't find this, but I assume it's a standard feature: the Incredible plays MP3s and video files, yeah? Really, all I do with my smart phone is email, text, listen to music at the gym and movies on flights. Any thoughts on the quality of the Incredible in those areas? Any other phone recommendations?
Thanks all. Sorry for the extended rant.
