So I'm semi-building a computer for my parents... so far I have an E6300, Asrock 4coredual motherboard, 1 (maybe 2) gigs of ram, a hard drive, a couple of optical drives, and an X1950XT 256 mb video card.

I also want an open upgrade option of popping a high-end video card (say 4870 or 9800 GTX) in the future.

How's the Corsair 450 watt PSU?

Any other low-cost PSU I might be overlooking?

The Corsair is a great option but the Antec Earthwatts models are as good and cheaper. The 380W model should be all you really need with room to OC. But for upgradeablity the 430W model may be best.

Just recently Newegg had the EarthWatts 500W for $50 with no rebates. If you're hoping for a 9800 GTX or 4870 video card in your future, that would be the lowest I'd go for. Alternately look for a deal on the corsair VX550/TX650, BFG LS-550/680 (shill alert*), Antec TruePower Trio 550/650 or any other good quality, modern unit that puts out a lot of +12v power and natively has two PCIe power plugs. Oh yeah, and I choose those brands because they're often on special or have rebates which knock down the pricing.

*Full disclosure - I work for BFG as my "day job."

I splurged and got the 520HX.

I liked my 620HX so much and thought what the heck.... might as well invest well.
