I was going to purchase a Panasonic SDR-H40 camcorder but i'd like some input.

Basically what I want is a camcorder that I can hook to my PC and pull video files off of. I'd highly prefer no converting or anything so it's VERY EASY for my wife to use as well.

Let me know what is a good model! Ease is the #1 priority, cost is probably #2.

have you thought about future-proof of hi-def?

i'm very happy with the sony HDR-SR5. the AVCHD format may not be as common and easily converted yet, but that will change. of course, you can also record in SD if you want.

pair up your hi-def camcorder with one of these and your wife will find it very easy to share dvd's with family. it will also burn standard dvd's with hi-def content that will only play in blu-ray players. tried it myself and it's very very sharp & easy.

don't really need hi-def though plus the pricing on hi-def cameras is

I know that the JVC's aren't amazing for their support, but what about a JVC? I have one, only trouble is that you need to get something that will convert your .MOD's to a .AVI.

I ended up grabbing the Panasonic SDR-H40 from Best Buy. We'll see how it does.
