Get "The V" (vx9800).
Just bought one over Christmas, and it's awesome.
It's not any bigger than my vx6000, in thickness or length or width (if you include the vx6000's permanent external antenna).
It's functional as hell, works as a phone, 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth (useable with BitPim), DUN support (115kbps internet anywhere you have a cell signal, pair it with your laptop via Bluetooth). And there's much more I'm not mentioning.
Buy it.

I got the free Audiovox CDM8910. Works well for me, a $9.25 (after shipping) cable off of ebay and bitpim was all that was needed to take pictures off and put MP3 ring tones on it. It's not a super duper phone, but it's good and was free 🙂

I have a RAZR v3c and really like it. I concede the E815 wins on price/performance, but the RAZR is undeniably more elegant, and I prefer its form factor by far. I wear a lot of suits and sport jackets for work, and it's nice to be able to tuck it into a breast pocket without creating a big lump.

I haven't used an E815, but I generally really like the RAZR's interface. I am coming from a Samsung A-670. I previously used a Startac, followed by a Samsung A-310. They have all been fine for me, with each generation including improvements in usability and features. I particularly like the RAZR's voice command features and strong speaker phone, but in general I like its functionality and interface just fine.

i would stay away from the e815.. i have it had dont hate it.. but it bothers me.. here is why:
Its a dual band phone.. so the coverage is not as good as some of the other triband phones like the v710.. I have had the phone since july and had it replaced 3 times due to dropping phone calls.. national average of 3%.. I was at 12, 15 and 10% each time.. the vzw dealer offered a new phone without any complaints or questions..

- Where in Milwaukee is that digital signal not covered? Why not go with a V710 replacement?

Another vote for the e815. I've only had mine for a week (two?) now... but it's awesome. I live in a fringe signal area that is not covered on the Verizon coverage map, and I've seen several Verizon phones not work at all here, but my e815 usually has 3 bars (as long as I'm not in my bedroom, which is completely underground) -- which is enough to hold a reasonable conversation, and is more than enough for TXT and VoiceMail.

815, would say the razr but verizon neuterd the interface so you have to pay for everything you want on it. 815 you can do anything on it that you can do with the GSM motos

Told me they didnt have any instock since the stopped selling it.. but I have seen them advertise it recently..
overal i m happy with vzw so I m not going to complain too much.. I use over 1500 IN mins a month on my 450 min plan..
...verizon neuterd the (RAZR) interface so you have to pay for everything you want on it.
It works with MPT right out of the box with no hacking. Gotta love that. Sounds like the OP doesn't need an MP3 player, so no problem there. It can transfer MP3 files for Ringer ID without hacking. What else are you looking for?

I have an LG VX 8100 and I would recommend it. It is built like a rock like the 6000. They use the same cable, so if you have a cable for your 6000, then you don't need to get a new one and it will work with bitpim. It has stereo speakers and it is very easy to hear the audio. The vibrate is nice and strong. You will feel it even if you were baggy clothing. For me, the most attractive part of the phone was that it was FAR. Nothing like paying $0 for a nice phone.
The only thing is that beauty is subjective. So many, when seeing the phone, just think that it is ugly, while others like it. It depends on your taste. Also, some people have complained about a volume bug that increases or decreases the volume in the ear piece while making a phone call. I personally have not experienced it.

Call the stores and ask - they should tell you if they have the actual phones to play with or not.
In my experience, the bigger stores (the ones that have a billing/customer service half and a showroom half) have real phones to play with. The stores that are smaller tend to have the fake models.
