I need to record some sounds onto my laptop. I need to go out and buy a microphone from BB, CompUSA Staples or somewhere tonight. Whats a good quality but reasonably priced (<$50) microphone for my computer?

I just use a $20 GE desktop microphone. Sound quality is really nice, sensitivy is nice and respective to high and low sounds. Works great with Ventrilo too. Got it at BB I think.

logitech make a good one, forget the model but it's USB. Never get one that only connects via the microphone port in the sound card.

Yep, I remember seeing that one there too, but I chose this one because it uses a ball-in-socket pivot, so it's extremely flexible. Can be brought up next to the monitor, straight up towards my face, or down low and angled upwards (the stem can be rotated too) to tune my guitar with tuning software.

Does it pick up background noise? Sometimes my chair squeaks.

Does it have a mute button on the base?

Oddly enough the only background noise it activates on is the door shutting. No mute button. But it's only $9.99 at CompUSA in Lansing! A weird thing is, that I have the microphone in Audio Properties muted, but Ventrilo still picks it up, unless I mute the mic in Ventrilo itself. Which is cool because I don't get my own voice in my headphones. I also have keybinds for mic and sound mute, so that replaces the button :)

Did you get the USB or non-USB version?

How do you like it so far?
