recommend me a good cordless house phone with answering machine

need a cordless phone with built-in answering machine for the house, either 900mhz or 5.8ghz. I've tried AT&T a few times but don't like em much. I've heard that Sonys are good. Any recommendations?

Cordless phones are funny, what works good for one is the "Absolute worst product ever made" for another.

Personally, I've had great success with Motorola's 5.8ghz phones. I can tell you to avoid "Spread Spectrum" phones if you have a wireless network as they have a good chance of interfering with WiFi connecitons.

the one that we're using is from 10 years ago and it works flawlessly and doesn't interfere with the wireless router. although when i had to replace the rechargable battery i got the larger one... but nothing some duct tape won't fix

I don't know if they include V-mail or not but our luck has always been with VTech. I love their phones. They are so clear all throughout our three-story house.

Another Panasonic vote. My old Panasonic is 10+ years old and still the best cordless I've ever used (900mhz). My newer one is a bit sexier looking, and includes a fax/answering machine/speakerphone @ 900mhz too. Its still very good, but not quite as clear as the old one. Obviously no interference with the wireless.

If possible, test the new phone before buying it. Not so much for range, etc, but if I had tried the newer one, I would have realized that the buttons on the back of the headset can hang up the phone if I hold it to my ear with my shoulder. Now I just use a headset anyways, so it is no big deal..

I prefer panasonic. I have a panasonic that is still in perfect working order, currently going on 10 years old.

Edit: I posted before I read down the list. Look at all of us that have 10+ year old panasonics. Which models do you guys have?

I have one of these and it's been excellent. I picked it up on sale for about $35.

EDIT: No interferance with my wireless either. Granted, my wireless is set up on a non-default channel, but still.
