I like Star Craft, but I'm bored. I actually started playing Red Alert again, it's not bad. Except only one of my disks works.. I love Civilization CTP, but the next Civ game is a ways off. Any ideas? What are good strategy games? I'm thinking of picking up Red Alert 2.

Cost is an object, also. Older games are cheap, and can be fun.

Fallout, Fallout 2, Diablo (the original), Baldur's Gate (I or II), AOE -Age of Empires (strategy just like starcraft, and a whole lot of fun), and Half-Life.

Just to name a few. :)

If you are looking for a newer game you might wanna wait for Emperor: Battle for Dune. Looks pretty good.

well, i'm currently in the process of looking for Emperor: Battle for Dune(same company that makes Red Alert, Westwood), it looks sick and its 4 cds......

I played Red Alert 2 and I liked it. Many cool options and fun for the entire family. Have you ever played Homeworld? or how about Earth 2150 or its sequel the Moon Project? all these are good games, but my favorite has to be Homeworld and its part 2.... all fun stradegy games and wayyy better graphics then the classic Star Craft,, Look into it :)

Okay, well I didn't want to type a page ont he games I've played, but I didn't like the Alpha Centauri demo, and already own AOE and AOE II. Halflife isn't the genere I'm in the mood for, but once I get my new parts from GeoffS I'll be more 3D friendly (although Emperor: Battle for Dune looks heavy on the eye candy). The Total Annihilation demo was too C&C for me, already have that..

That Emperor game looks interesting though, it'll be interesting I bet. And, DannyLove, thanks for the other suggestions. Time to look at those.

Emporer Battle for Dune sucks, the 3d view is just stupid and slows down the game. I have a P3 700E@1008 and sometimes when moving a lot of units it slows down. The game is just red alert 2 with some new units and an annoying 3d system that adds nothing.

I find Z: Steel Soldiers more interesteing and humorous

This game rules. Me and my friend just reloaded it and are going to have an all summer tournament. Me vs him. I am ahead 2-0 at the moment, with another game tonight:).

you guys seen the screenshots of Age of Mythology? its a follow up to Age of Empries, the screenshots i seen are just amazing, the most realistic graphics and lightening i ever seen in a real time strategy game.

You guys are all talking RTS games, before I realized that's what I'm craving. Civ just isn't suiting my palette right now.

You all really think Total Annilihation is that great? Aside from not being able to spell it, I might have to look at it again. Wonder what it goes for used. Or burnt. :D

You can probably find it and the xpac (core contingancy) for around $10.00, cause it is getting to be an older game. But this is still the best Multiplayer RTS I have ever played, and still play. THere are STILL sites that come out with maps and such for this game. That is how good it is, and how long it has lasted.

Well, I don't think multiplayer is really something I worry about anyway. My fiance will play AOE II with me, because she's into King Arthur stuff and likes making castles and crap. :) It is my impression that she does like to kick invaders' asses though.

Can't beat $10 though, hopefully not marred like my poor old Red Alert 2 Allied CD.

<< Jus hang in there till warcraft III comes out. >>

And Civ. III, and I also have an affinity (although I don't know why) for Sim City, there's a cool sounding Sim Neighborhood or something like that on the way. A cross between Sim City and The Sims? Hmm hmm.

Total Annihilation is a great game, in the same line is the first Dark Reign. both of which I find far superior to Starcraft.

i have to speak up for battlezoneII. although it's over a year old, it's combining fps with rts in a game filled with marvelous eye-candy is a true challenge, especially mp strat and mpi. caution: this game is a resource hog. you definetly need a fast cpu, a stout graphics card and gobs of memory. twx2 :)
