- Have 10 days with my parents and minimal social contact, 24/7 free time
- Have one PC with good Internet access and video card/memory/CPU
- Formerly a big gamer, but long ago moved on to other things

Desire:
- Find a game that I can play for 12 hours a day
- Games I liked in the past:
MMORPGs - EverQuest, EVE Online, World of Warcraft, Dark Age of Camelot, Asheron's Call
RPGs - Oblivion, Final Fantasy 7
Strategy - Starcraft

Budget: up to $100 (including monthly fee)

Since you actually liked Oblivion, yeah, Fallout 3 should be at the top of your list.

Some others to try: Dawn of War (get a compilation version with all the various expansions)

Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne(This will keep you occupied for sure, especially with DOTA)
 
fallout 3 might be one of the best games I've ever played so I vote for that.

ps do ALL the sidequests and explore or else the game will be over way too quick

im half serious...i havent invested this much time in a single player games since ff7/diablo 2

For the first point : It's not like wow ends, he can easily reup for 15 bucks and play again or start over as a new character,etc. He can also buy the expansion if he hasn't played it (though he'd have to reup and buy xpac) and go through that content too. It also fits the bill of filling up your time.

I have no defense for the second point RESmonkey made.

 
DOTA! In my first year in college I played so many games of SC. What the hell, it was like 6 years old of a game by then but I still had fun. I played some DOTA last year in Asia although I got kicked for not being able to type in Chinese (WTF). I can still ping and call MIA =P

They are not worth it unless there are some cheat codes to "pass the game" in the first 5min.
