Recommend me a comfy, easy to type on, keyboard?

(FYI, I placed this in the General Hardware board, wrong place, sorry for the re-post)

For my new rig, I have my heart set on the MX1000 as my gaming mouse (unless someone wants to talk me out of that, I certainly wouldn't mind) but as for a keyboard, I'm none too sure. Firstly, I want to say I don't like my current keyboard very much. Keys are hard to depress which slows down typing and makes it more of a chore than anything at times.

Keyboards I *do* like are the ones at school. The University uses these generic-like black Dell keyboards which have keys that are soft and easy to depress. Typing is almost, dare I say it, fun with those. It's almost akin to the white Mac keyboards in the ease of their keys. Also, I'm really looking for a keyboard with media buttons so I can switch tracks with WinAmp easily.

In short: If anyone has a recommendation for a keyboard that has keys that are easy on the fingers, easy to depress with media buttons that can change tracks (with WinAmp or any other compatible software), please name it :) .

Thank-you.

Anything by Logitech is really good. The one I have below don't have media tracks, but it's extremely good (I'm using a variant of it that has function keys and a calculator button).

Otherwise, these seem pretty good:

EDIT: On the mouse, if you're not planning to game or do precision work, the MX1000 should be fine to use. But from my experiences with wireless mice, they're specialized mice (only good if you really need the cordless). Otherwise, I'd get something like a MX510, Optorite Laser, or Diamondback.

Mushy keyboards exacerbate carpal tunnel syndrome. Read the reviews around the web (some are on the MaximumPC and PimpRig sites) about the Metadot "Das Keyboard". If you like what you read, then buy a Keytronic E03600 series from Provantage.com (best price I've found - ~$20. shipped, save $60 over the Das). The Das Keyboard IS the Keytronic 3600 black, USB version with the keys unmarked.

Oh yes, I'm planning to game quite a bit! Isn't the freedom without a wire advantageous? I knew wireless mouses are rather hefty, but I thought I'd get used to it? If you can attest to why I'm wrong, please go ahead, I don't want to plunk $50 CAD on a mouse I can't use for FPS :( .

Well, I've only used one wireless mouse so far, but my experiences have been rock bottom. Bad response, it "sleeps" and takes too long to wake up, and horrible battery life. I haven't used the MX1000, so I can't say.

Find an old IBM Model M and enjoy typing bliss, 1980's style. :) The Das Keyboard and Keytronics designs were based off these. The buckling spring mechanisms used in these are much less stressful (albeit, noisier) on your hands than cheap, membrane-based keyboards. Zepper's absolutely right about mushy keyboards being hell on your fingers and wrists. I stockpile the IBMs every chance I get so that I have them around for a long time to come, not that they'll ever break since I can pretty much toss them out the window with no damage. I was lucky enough to find 2, brand-new-in-the-box black Model M boards with the built-in Trackpoint (very rare) while cleaning out an old office, and they're my primary keyboards at the office and home now. You should be able to find a beige model pretty cheap on everyone's favorite auction site.

I don't know what you mean by its [sic]... If you meant the Das Keyboard - then he__ no! If you want to learn to keyboard without looking at the keys, get an older version of Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing (oldder versions are just as good as the current and are way cheap) for $10. or less. Let her slap you into shape...
. If you meant the Keytronic E03600 with a roll of black electrical tape or some Testors model paint to fill in the keytops, then sure if you want to. It is an excellent keyboard.

Nothing, except that you can only use 3 keypresses rather than 4 for the PS/2.

Okay, Ctrl to shift, walk forward left using W and D, and then using Q to lean left. :) 4 keys right there.

Looks good and I think most M$ kbds are still OEMed by Keytronic so it should have a decent feel. But I still wouldn't buy a USB only kbd.

Yeah, you're right. I do use a lot of keys at once but I just have a question about the MX1000. Those sensitivity or whatever buttons on the left side of the mouse...can you map those to in-game functions? Like sprint/grenade/etc.?

I think that'd be really helpful over what they're offering you.

I have M$ Comfort Curve 2000. I like it a lot. Quiet keys and pretty easy to type.

Regarding MX1000, I have been using it for over 9 months. As long as the mouse feet are good and you have a good mousepad, then it is ok since it glides around easily. However, after a while it won't glide as easily due to mouse feet worn out and the heavy weight of the MX1000. I just bought a G5 yesterday, man it is so much better(light weight). It doesn't sleep because it is corded. No matter how long you leave it untouch, the moment you move it, it moves. It is nice to have cordless, however, it don't like to move around a "brick" all the time.

I'm very happy with my basic Microsoft Multimedia keyboard. It's cheap, so I don't worry about spilling stuff on it (although I haven't yet), easy to type on, and has lots of nice function keys on top.
