recommend me a codec pack

personally, i am using gomplayer and never needed to bother with codecs other than mastroka and AAC.

this engineer friend of my roomate is doing me a huge favor by soldering some caps that fell off my sound card, so in return i am burning him a cd with a codec pack. i am told the guy is hopelessly clueless when it comes to comptuers and rarely even logs on AIM (go figure ), which is why he would find this cd useful.

can anyone recommend me a foolproof codec pack for a computer illiterate person? thanks in advance.

Just download VLC and have him use that to play videos.

the thing is i am not gonna get over there to do it for him. it just needs to be easy enough for him to pop the cd in and install the codec pack himself. i know it sounds like a strange request but thats the way my roomate wants to handle the situation, and the friend's house is too far for me to get there just to have that installed. who knows, maybe he doesnt even have internet there. so are you suggesting i should burn VLC on the cd that i am going to give him?

that would be a fine solution for people like me, in fact i used to do that before i discovered gomplayer (which is superior than mpc in every way imo)

i told my roomate the same thing - just tell his friend what to download off the net - but he kept telling me the guy is a total idiot when it come to computers

no, media player classic is much better than vlc in my opinion, it shines where it matters, the user interface. The features where they matter are about the same.

Will respectfully disagree, especially with regard to the UI. What matters most is the application's ability to perform its function (in this case, display video) efficiently and effectively, while still maintaining robust options within that particular function.

VLC is a supremely better choice in this regard.

Just download AceS Codec pack from freecodecs.com

It has all the codecs you will ever need. And this way you can install them all at once, and uninstall them all at once. It also comes with a lot of cool tools like Gspot
