Recommend me a cheap DVD player.

Philips 642 DVD/SVCD/Divx/Xvid player...can usually be found for around $65-$70 online. This player has played everything I've throw at it with the exception of a very few Divx/Xvid files with advanced features (Qpel, etc.).

It can be made region free and can play both NTSC and PAL DVDs.

I've been looking for a DVD player myself recently ($200 range though)

It seems like the Philips 642 is a nice one for your range. I've run into a lot of positive stuff about it looking through DVD stuff.

This one will play all of your Divx stuff too, apparently Not sure how good it actually is though.

Personally, I've got a fairly cheap Toshiba (forget the model off the top of my head) that has been working beautifully for a couple years.

Ok, wtf. Both of those players can't play DTS tracks?

Is there one in the <$70 range that can? I am more interested in DTS than divx playback myself.

You need a reciever for anything more than standard stereo sound, I believe...or do more expensive players (NOT DVD/Reciever combos found in HTIBs) come with decoding capabilities built in?

Yes, that is true, but what this makes me think is that the dvd players can't even put out a dts signal for the receivers to decode? Thats what I am getting from it..maybe I am wrong.

As far as I know, the player itself doesn't require anything special, aside from some form of digital audio output (either optical or coax). The *reciever* is what needs to be DTS capable.

I've seen a few of them at Target for around $70. Probably find them online cheaper.
