Recommend me a big size TV/Monitor

My bed is like 8 feet away from my computer desk so thats one input I can give. I do not have a dedicated graphics card but have onboard graphics. Would I need to get a dedicated card for a better movies experience? The rest of my config is fine ..core 2 quad, 4 gb, 7200 rpm..the usual. I want to add a blueray drive as well to watch movies.

Which TV would be best for me?

Thanks guys

What onboard graphics card do you have? Also, will all your viewing be done from 8 feet away? If so, then I'd recommend a 42" LCD TV, but that would be a little much if you will also sit 2 feet from it at your computer desk. What's your budget?

Intel G33/31 is what I have. Ya the movies viewing will be done from about 8 feet while the browsing will be done from about 2.5-3 feet. No set budget ...I'm usually the kind who wouldn't mind waiting but getting it right is important for me.

I don't think your onboard graphics will cut it. Thankfully there are some very inexpensive video cards that work great in an HTPC. I'd recommend either the Radeon 4550 or 4670 found in this link. The 4670 will provide better gaming performance and should be better at processing SD videos. For BD I don't think you'd notice the difference between them.

If you were always going to be 2.5 - 3 feet from the screen, then I'd probably recommend a 32" 1080P TV. If you were always going to be 8 feet from the screen, then I'd recommend anywhere from a 42" to 52" screen. You'll have to decide which distance will take precedence for you. Is there any way to make the screen a little farther away from you while at your desk? A 42" at 3.5 - 4 feet away would probably be doable. Another thought is using an articulating wall mount that would keep the TV 4" from the wall while you're at the desk and extend to 24" while you're 8 feet away.

As far as the specific TV recommendations, I can't help too much with that. Just make sure that the TV can accept 1920x1080 over an HDMI cable with no scaling or overscan. If you care about gaming on it, then be sure that it doesn't have much input lag. The Samsung mentioned above is a good TV as a computer monitor, but it's been out for a while, so there are probably better options now.

I've been able to get the g33 to decode 1080p, but only with vlc and also only with a couple different codecs - it takes work and the cpu means a lot more to the config. DVD's fine, but any HD content is dicy on a g33. slap an nvidia anything (8800+) and the problem is fixed, and then you can use nvidias purevideo codec - very nice.

Why is that more correct than the OP's title? It might sound awkward, but that doesn't make it incorrect. If you can find a source that states that an indirect object cannot be used with the verb recommend, then more power to you. If you can't, then you fail as a Grammar Nazi.

I don't see how the OP's title is any different than the statement, "Give me the ball." Of course, you could say, "Give the ball to me." But the ability to word the sentence in a different and possibly less-awkward way does not make the original statement grammatically incorrect.
