Recommend me a 120mm Case fan for my Antec Sonata

I only care that it's quiet. Right now my rig is whisper quiet except for the blasting that's coming from the stock case fan. I replaced the PSU on my case and my new PSU doesn't have a 5V connector so the case fan is running full bore. HELP! It's soo loud...

So you have no thermally controlled connectors on your PSU? Well, I hear the Nexus 120mm Real Silent Case Fan are one of the quietest. I can't say from personal experience though. Only comes in orange unfortnately...

Hmm. I'll look into the silenx solution but that's steep. What sorta of fan controller can I use to connect a 4 molex thingamajig to? The fanmates made by Zalman seem only to connect to the 5V line like that found on my 7000AlCu.

TT makes one or did make one for I have one but dont use it. Try them (ThermalTake) >The SilenX's are steep as you say- I just saw "whisper quiet" in your 1st post and these fans are the only ones I have used that are indeed "whisper quiet!"

Be careful of the fan thickness. I believe the Sonata front fan only accepts 25mm.......

Sweet. YOu jsut threw another wrench in my plans 🙁.

Try one of these Enermax fans. Not only is it 25mm, it has a speed controller with it (already wired up). I put one on my new XP-120 and it can get very quiet. Worth looking at since it should fit in your situation.

Yeah, these fans are a good compromise of the nexus. THey also give you the option of running full speed when things are a little toasty.

umm, no. not true, get as thick a fan as you can find. it'll fit...unless you have a foot long pci card in an expansion slot.

that's a vantec stealth by the way

Wow, I stand corrected, I was thinking of the 3700BQE. That is an eye opener. I have a Sonata but only use the rear fan (keeps it cool enough for my taste). I never really thought about it, but there is no room for one between the front panel and the drive cage. Not a very efficient way to cool hard drives. The 3700AMB has an advantage in HD cooling over the Sonata and the 3700BQE IMO....

If you're concerned about a fan fitting, check the current (installed) fan's dimensions and just get one that thick or thinner. You'll have better luck with a 25mm fan fitting than the 38mm fan, even if it has a 38mm installed. The Enermax I linked to above has the fan speed controller on it already (pre wired). It also comes ready to connect to your mobo and comes with the converter to connect to a Molex feed. With that one, you can adjust the fan speed (manually) until you get the flow, and sound level, you want. I have one sitting on my XP-120 right now. I'm allowing the mobo to controll the speed (to make it more quiet) but when I get home tonight, I'll open the case up, set the fan to about 50% speed and turn off the mobo control on it. It's been running on the system since Saturday, so I'm looking to adjust it now.

Hmm now that I've become addicted to the quiet side of CPU cooling I had a question...

That's what I'm getting for my 3700BQE

Is the stock fan from the BQE really loud enough to warrant buying a replacement fan? I thought the case was designed to already be quiet?

I've already purchased an NV5 Silencer, and a Zalman 7700, but I must admit the case still isn't as quiet as I would like. Of course my L-shaped desk is designed with the case sitting roughly 1-3 feet in front of me with the DVD Drive accessible.

Part of it might be that I'm not using the FanMate to regulate speeds, but it gets kinda whooshy as the fan ramps up in speeds... Should I use the FanMate to force speeds, or is there a software way to control the Zalman?

All i know is that i have 2 of these in my sonata and the airflow from the front to the back is amazing. it's like a wind-tunnel. They have been in my system for a year without any problems.

The choice is up to the user but I just offered my .02 cents!

are there less dust entering due to possitive air pressure?

I should have bought a case with 120mm fans. My 80mm's (4 of them) are still quiet, but they don't push much air.

Anyways the enermax is clearly the best plan. I think you might be able to find a better price elsewhere though.
