Recommend hair clippers for a dog...

We have a black & tan cocker spaniel, his name is Mortimer (Morty). After the first time of sending him to the Dog Groomers and finding out they charge $50 to groom him...We decided we'd just do it ourselves at home.

We picked up a set of clippers at Walmart for $40 and the first couple of times they worked pretty good...But after that they're all but useless in cutting his hair anymore (and I've been astute about cleaning and oiling the thing too).

So now I'm in the market for a GOOD and POWERFUL set of clippers and I'm willing to pay $200+ if need be. My reasoning being that since we like to keep Morty's hair short it wouldn't take long for the clippers to pay for themselves vs. all the visits to the Groomers.

Recommendations greatly appreciated.

Go to a dog grooming shop and ask them. They may even have them for sale.

Heh, heh, we used to clip our own dogs and finally realized it was far less trouble to pay the $ and let someone else do it. The job was done far better with less effort.

What's the big deal? Is dog hair really that much stronger than human hair??

I'm curious too because I've been using my walmart clippers on my hair for four years.

You guys aren't seriously comparing Hair to Fur are you?

...Anyway, after huntin around the net it looks like I'm gonna go with an Oster A-5 Turbo 2-Speed Clipper...The slower speed is for use around the face and ears (less noise, so it's less intimidating) and the higher speed is for blazing through the main body fur.

I guess I can try using the crappy old Wahl I bought from WalMart on my back 'fur'
