Recommend good Space Sim Game

Looking for a great space sim game recommend me one. I used to play FREESPACE 2 when it came out in 00, looking for a similar one or along that same gameplay.

i'm interested too. seems like the space sim genre died... the closest thing i've found to a space sim is freelancer but that isn't a real space sim at all (still fun though)

EVE Online is an excellent space sim, but it doesn't have the same gameplay as freespace. I'm afraid Freespace is the best we ever had

I had lots of fun playing Independence war 2.

Lot of mods out for it also.

Also you can try the demo since they have a decent one out.

I really enjoyed Freelancer but it's not a sim.

You might try Vega Strike which is open source. I couldn't get over the learning curve but I'm not much for sims so that's not saying much.

freespace 2 has many add-ons, like derelict.too lazy for a link.

my friend loved freespace but he was hoping to find something new and updated. He wanted something that would take advantage of todays technology and video cards. sigh

what about the "Jump to Lightspeed" expansion to "Galaxies" - I know it's probably what you were after but you can build and fly your own spacecraft from what I hear

The only thing about EVE online is that you don't control the ships like in Freelancer, just so you know. Otherwise it's got tons more depth.

Freespace 2 is one of the greatest games of all time. I wish they would make 3 (the ending was great to go into Freespace 3... they just got gate technology so they could make one to get back in contact with earth!).
