Recommend good "budget" PCI Express video card...

I am in the process of getting my selection for my system upgrade finalized. I have selected the Gigabyte Nforce4 mobo and Newegg.com and I will either get the 3000+ and 3200+ for the proc depending on the overclockability of either one. The sticking point is the graphics card. I'm not a gamer, I'm more of a multimedia fiend, but I don't really want bottom of the barrell. I have been eyeballin' the Gigabyte X600 that Newegg has now. I was wondering if anyone here had an opinion on this card. Or if you could recommend one that is roughly in this price range. I also was looking at the Gigabyte 6600 Whaddya think?

If you can save up a few more bucks, the 6600GT is the best midrange PCI-e video card out there right now.

If you're not a gamer, I don't see why you should be buying anything faster than an X300[SE] or a GeForce 6200. The only thing a faster card does for you (unless it has additional features like VIVO or a TV tuner built in) is play games faster (unless you have a video editing suite that can take advantage of a DX9 card to do realtime effects, but even then it's a pretty limited application).

The 6600GT is a nice card, and a pretty good deal at ~$180 (much better bang/buck than that X600), but it's way, way overkill for a non-gaming system.

Both links go to same card(x600).

But good post, cuz I too was wondering what the best budget PCI-E card is out there. But I decided to go all out(well, almost) and get the ATI x800xl at Fry's. I figured I'd be set for awile with that card. I was also looking at the x600 AIW, but settled on getting a Hauppauge 150 later on that would suit my needs(TV tuner, MPEG2).

I myself just bought a x600 Pro for $105 shipped from GoGoCity.com. I'm happy with the card. Plays HL2 pretty well with most settings as high as they go.
