recommend better video editing program

I've tried ulead, VERY unreliable, crashes like, every 5 minutes, more often as the video gets bigger.

Adobe premiere is what I use now. It's also very flaky, randomly refuses certain formats (shows as just black), crashes randomly during render and what not.

Anything else out there that's of decent quality and has decent features, like png overlay and such?
