it should be the right connector then...the 3x2 connector is usually the power cable for PCI-E video card's and some high end AGP cards.

i have a rev 1 HIS and have not had a single problem. of course it's running on an adequate psu. very quiet cooler, efffective and solid.

how do you tell if it is rev1 or 2 ?


since my new Sapphire came back from RMA, it has been running flawlessly ... but i haven't even tried to OC it ... and it's only been a couple of weeks ... the first one lasted 31 days
[doubt i would mention OC'ing it here because of the 'snitches' and 'morally indignant' fanboys, anyway ]

... and of course, this time - i have an adequate PS

Sapphire didn't change any of the clock speeds in the different revisions....

I think he was talking about the Visiontek or HIS models, they were higher clocked than most other brands...

I know the first revision of the Visiontek had some problems with the high clock speeds that they ran at.

I'm not sure about the HIS models, they are cooled quite well with a decent sized HSF unit.

the "lowly" Sapphires are just clocked at the regular 580/1400 no matter that revision they are.

It's probably not worth it...it's probably better to just start saving for a PCI-E setup (I highly recommend a C2D setup)...after discovering how much my OC'd A64 held back my pro...I doubt you would fair any better upgrading to a XT.

... and if it is worth it ... for what little useful life it has left with DX9 games

You're right...that's why I skimped on the C2D an only got a E4300....I figured that at 3ghz it would be plenty fast and tide me over till C2Q's become affordable...less than AU$500 would be nice, instead of the current AU$1200+ they currently go for.

stumps had stated earlier in the thread to get a rev 2 HIS, and i was just commenting i had a rev 1 HIS and no issues whatsoever.

yea, it had nothing to do with sapphire, only HIS.

I got one. Was wondering about whether I should install the ccc when I install the latest driver (7.3). I've read that it's a potential source for problems. Any opinions?

If you are running WinXP download the 7.3's with the Control Panel instead from http://www.ngohq.com they tend to perform a bit better than the CCC based Cats and they don't have the bloated Craphole Control Center to screw things up.
