it is my friends bday tomorrow and we are headed for Palm Springs for the weekend. One of the things i want to get him is a really good bottle of Vodka. We normally just buy the huge bottles of Grey Goose from Costco and we love it, nothing more in a vodka is really needed especially since we rarely drink it straight however i want an expensive bottle of vodka but at the same time a good one. One that we can drink straight is prob what i am looking for.
Not sure what stores would carry such things anyway other than Beverages & More in the San Fernando Valley. That is where i am headed to later so if anyone can tell me what to look for, a specific brand, or anything would help

-edit-

most of you said to go with GG. I do not WANT GG. I LOVE GG but it is like the Patron of the Tequila world, great tasting but common and not expensive (compared) to other ultra premium tequilas like Don Fernando which is upwards of $200 a bottle, or Milagro etc.
GG, Belvedere, Level, Chopin, etc are all good but they are all $40-50 (for the large costco bottles) i am looking to spend upwards of $200 on a single 750ml bottle

Picture of most of the alcohol i have at home right now, i obviously do not need more GG lol

*edit* purchased a bottle of Stoli Elit =\

Grey Goose and Belvedere are good enough for anything you want to do.

I think Belvedere is a bit smoother in a vodka gimlet.

Just to switch it up a bit from the above, Turi and Van Gogh are quite good as well.

How does the new one called Level measure up? I've seen the ads for it and it looks like they're trying to establish that it is in the same league as Grey Goose/Belvedere. Do they?

I'm not even a vodka fan, just curious.

It's my duty as a Texan to recommend Tito's Handmade Vodka in every liquor thread.

Please tell me that all you guys recommending GG are doing so based upon your personal experiences, and not because every douchebag rapper is gargling with it onstage instead of Courvosier these days.

I actually prefer absolute to GG. I know many people say GG is better, and it is good...but absolute owns my soul.

Excellent vodka, especially for the price. Grey goose is good for shots & shooters. If you are going to be mixing a lot, Tito's & Svedka are great for the price. Although I found out recently that Skyy actually works better in limoncello batches than Svedka does, although I consider Svedka better. I also enjoy the french vodkas, strangely enough, but not for shots--shooters & mixers only... Oh yea, and I forgot me and my wife's favorite, Ketel One...

Anything at all + Brita filter.

Really, what does that do when you filter it through a Brita?

A bunch of guys did a test, might be a YouTube video. They took a cheap $10 handle of store brand vodka, the kind that tastes like rubbing alcohol, and ran it through a Brita. After four filters, the vodka tasted pretty much like the more reputable brands. I can't remember if they compared it to something like Smirnoff or Grey Goose, although I want to say the later.

I've always hated clear liqour, especially vodka. But Sat night, the girl I went out with kept drinking a vodka by "Stoli) (sp?). she talked me into trying it and it was REALLY good. Very smooth, none of that "smells and tastes like you're drinking rubbing alcohol" feeling.
